The Plumbing and Drainage Act 2019 specifies the tasks that can be performed by unlicensed individuals, such as homeowners, including cleaning or maintaining ground-level grates on sanitary drains, changing a shower head, or replacing a domestic water filter cartridge.
Anyone who attempts to undertake plumbing or drainage work without the appropriate license may face severe penalties of up to $32,637.50 for first-time offenders, with higher fines for subsequent offenses, and imprisonment if their work is considered grossly defective. It is also prohibited for anyone without a contractor’s license to perform work intended for public use.
