WARNING

Handymen or persons who do not hold a plumbing and drainage contracting licence cannot perform ‘regulated work’

The Plumbing and Drainage Act 2019 specifies the tasks that can be performed by unlicensed individuals, such as homeowners, including cleaning or maintaining ground-level grates on sanitary drains, changing a shower head, or replacing a domestic water filter cartridge.

Anyone who attempts to undertake plumbing or drainage work without the appropriate license may face severe penalties of up to $32,637.50 for first-time offenders, with higher fines for subsequent offenses, and imprisonment if their work is considered grossly defective. It is also prohibited for anyone without a contractor’s license to perform work intended for public use.

It is essential for all members of the community to understand their legal responsibilities when it comes to DIY plumbing projects, so that we can ensure our collective safety remains uncompromised.

What is the MPA Qld

As a member of the Master Plumbers Association of Qld, small businesses in hazardous industries like plumbing, drainage and gas fitting benefit from MPAQ’s innovative platform. This platform provides an easy-to-use system to manage their health and safety obligations, including creating Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) in less than five minutes. This helps ensure employers comply with Australia’s strict Workplace Health and Safety Act and Regulations 2011, which could mean huge penalties or even jail time if not followed correctly. Every company is legally required to provide a site-specific Safe Work Methods Statement, which is a step-by-step instruction that identifies and anticipates potential hazards and control measures to minimize the risk and likelihood of accidents. By joining the Master Plumbers Association of Queensland, small businesses can stay safe and keep up with the ever-changing regulations. Ease of incident reporting The MPAQ System allows for the easy and efficient reporting of workplace hazards and incidents, allowing members to easily record WHS incidents, hazards, and risks with minimal effort. All of this information is securely stored in the MPAQ System, providing an efficient way to keep track of these important safety issues. It is an invaluable tool that helps ensure the safety of all members by giving them a platform to raise any problems they may have regarding WHS.
